Tarnowitzite is one of the many iconic mineral species from Tsumeb, the world-famous mine which operated for close to 100 years in northern Namibia. Occurring on this large miniature as stubby, equant snow-white crystals, Tarnowitzite is the plumboan (lead-rich) variety of Aragonite, a mineral found through the Tsumeb orebody. The crystals measure to 1.5 cm and form multifaced, opaque, sub-spherical prisms scattered over a druse of colourless to light buff Calcite micro-crystals. From the Josef Clemente Collection of southern Germany, this is a pleasing example of the Tarnowitzite variety of Aragonite from Tsumeb.
