With a suite of lovely old (19th century) handwritten German labels this classic from St. Andreasberg in Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany is a wonderful miniature. It features many hundreds of tiny, glassy, pointed Apophyllite crystals overgrowing and associated with the distinctive classic pseudohexagonal prisms of Calcite from this famous mining region. One label appears to mention a date of 1854, whilst another the name Scharff who could be the German geologist who published papers during the 1880s. The Apophyllite crystals are admittedly small, but this is a wonderful all-round historic German specimen.
