Annabergite - nickel arsenate hydrate - presents a green colour almost unique within the mineralogical world. As a very rare species it never forms large crystals, but it can be stunningly beautiful when it produces extensive coverage of star-like sprays of intensely coloured bladed crystals. Widely regarded as the world's best locality for the species, the Km 3 mines at Lavrion Mining District, Greece have not only produced the largest crystals, but also the best colour. This very large miniature specimen features the finest intense apple-green colour in really sharply defined bladed monoclinic microcrystals. These crystals reach 2 mm in length and sprays to 4 mm in diameter and are stunningly beautiful under magnification.
