A spectacular and classic specimen of intergrown oil-green Andradite crystals atop a fibrous white Amphibole species from the Malenco Valley in Italy. Crystals of Andradite measure to 4 mm with a gemmy-translucent yellow-oily green colour and collectively form a single, thick disk-like plate of approximately 3 x 3 x 1 cm. This sits at one end of the fibrous mass of foliated, buttery clotted-cream to pale peppermint Amphibole fibres. Displayed vertically, the specimen looks like a ghostly apparition, even complete with two eyes on one side! Although this Amphibole is unclassified as far as its specific species, it is likely an asbestos, so be aware handle and display with it with appropriate respect.
