Several clusters of lustrous black Cassiterite crystals are aggregated over a granitic matrix, from Bunny mine at Stenalees, St. Austell, Cornwall, a mine on the southern flanks of the Hensbarrow granite boss. The individual Cassiterite crystals measure to 1.5 cm on edge and form well defined, lustrous pyramidal prisms protruding from a snowy white matrix of altered granite. Because of fractures within the Cassiterite crystals and a slightly friable matrix, the specimen has been reinforced using a low viscosity superglue which is drawn into microscopic cracks by capillary pressure. No glue is visible, giving the specimen a perfectly natural appearance. The requirement for this treatment has, however, been reflected in its reduced price.
