Specimens of tin ore (Cassiterite) are rarely seen from Great Condurrow mine, making this small cabinet-sized example a really fine addition to a collection of Cornish tin ores. It comes from Malcolm Southwood's collection (no. MS 2004.065) and consists of a wide but thin plate of chloritic matrix upon which many mid-brown to honey coloured glossy Cassiterite crystals (mostly about 2 mm in size) are distributed. Their paleness gives the impression that they are sparse, but under magnification the richness can be seen, as well as their great crystal form. An old German typed collection label accompanying the specimen records that it dates to 1888.
