{"product_id":"sphalerite-with-calcite-5","title":"SPHALERITE   with CALCITE","description":"The Joplin Field is one of the classic areas of the Tri-State District in Missouri, USA and this excellent cabinet specimen is certainly what would be termed an old-timer!  It is composed from a jumble of lustrous, metallic black Sphalerite crystals, sized between a few millimetres and 2.3 cm, covering a mainly hidden matrix of massive, opaque orange-tan Sphalerite of an earlier generation, with the occasional translucent apricot orange zone.  Accounts of specimens from the Joplin Field suggest such specimens nucleate around a core of chert.  This may be the case here, but remains unknown because the two generations of Sphalerites completely cover every side, including the base.
