The crystals range from translucent to near-gemmy golden-tan and around the base much smaller, colourless rhombohedral crystals occur. The specimen clearly shows the gradual transformation from near-perfect small rhombohedral crystals to their tall, extended and distorted habit, whereby the rhombohedral faces form the terminations of the tall crystals.
