Rep. of Congo. This small mine, operated by an opencut, has been operating for nearly a century and is renowned as the source of some of the world's finest crystallized Shattuckite. The sprays of this rare copper silicate hydroxide merge across the display surface of this small cabinet-sized specimen, but the individual radial growths reach up to 2 cm in diameter, which is a good size, and most are in very good condition, and display all around. Two, or three sprays along the edges of the sample reveal the exposed compact, featureless core of the growths. The contrast between delicate feathery exteriors and compact interiors is fascinating to see.
