The Rhodochrosite displays interlocking rhombic crystals which form a low relief, botryoidal display face.  Its attractive translucent deep pinkish-red colour is accompanied by an aesthetic, slightly chatoyant lustre. The black manganese oxide matrix is probably Pyrolusite, judging from its somewhat radial-platy and botryoidal appearance.
