{"product_id":"pyromorphite-315","title":"PYROMORPHITE","description":"Famous for its mid-19th century discoveries of Pyromorphite and more rarely Plumbogummite, the Roughton Gill mine in the Caldbeck Fells in the northern Lake District is justifiably an iconic mineral locality. Popular with mineral collectors right through until the year 2000 when a ban on collecting came into place, it was still productive of fine and interesting specimens. This bright, sulphur-yellow small cabinet specimen of Pyromorphite on massive white Quartz is a classic of 1980s to 1990s surface excavations on Roughton Gill South Lode towards the Mexico mine section of workings at the head of Roughton Gill and found its way into a collection in Germany. Although many of the individual crystals of Pyromorphite show some abrasion, they are extremely glossy and magnificently coloured for Pyromorphite, individually reaching up to 7 mm in length. Under magnification the white Quartz can be seen to be made up of many blades, possibly indicating a replacement of Baryte.
