Covering a botryoidal, plate-like shell of milky white Calcite, the Goethite forms a velvet textured surface coating of rich chestnut to chocolate brown, highlighted light caramel.  These lighter coloured highlights are the result of slight bruising on the crests of the botryoidal mounds.  These, counter-intuitively, actually enhance the specimen's appearance and aesthetic.
