{"product_id":"fluorite-663","title":"FLUORITE","description":"In many remote parts of the world finding the exact source of mineral specimens can be difficult and no more so than the Kokcha Valley in Badakhshan, Afghanistan. Lapis Lazuli can at least be pinned down based on outcrops of the geological sequence containing Lazurite, but other mineral species can be more challenging. This fine small cubic crystal of Fluorite was labelled in Arvid Pasto's collection as from Kokcha Valley but if you search for a list of mineral species from this valley on Mindat.org Fluorite doesn't come up. However, there are images of Fluorite from there, but because the locality is not specific, other than to the whole valley, the listing gets lost. Those few images that do exist suggest that the Fluorite discovery was in about 2011 to 2013 and was short-lived, making this quite a rare example. The cube is 2 cm on edge and remarkably intact all round, with a colourless translucent appearance but accentuated by a sea-green internal glow brought about by a blue-green layer on the top of the underlying matrix. A few internal cleavage planes are visible but there does not appear to be any noticeable contact damage on the surface of the crystal.
