Don't let first impressions deceive, as the Finnemanite crystals are superb for the species. Although a microscope is needed to appreciate the detailed prismatic form of the crystals they can be seen just by rotating the specimen in daylight with the longest crystal reaching an impressive 8 mm in length. The crystals lie flat upon a fine-grained dense grey metallic mineral. This has not been tested, but could simply be hematite or magnetite.
