{"product_id":"cobaltoan-calcite-with-kolwezite-ps-after-chalcopyrite-2","title":"Cobaltoan CALCITE with KOLWEZITE ps. after CHALCOPYRITE","description":"Like an island dominated by four main mountainous peaks, but pink, this miniature-sized specimen from Mashamba West mine, in Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo is Cobaltoan Calcite on a grand crystallized scale. The very glassy dark pink, complex stepped scalenohedral crystals reach over 2.5 cm in length and are sat upon a banded pale pink and cerise-pink bed of Cobaltoan Calcite seen in cross-section around the edges of the specimen base. Two of the crystals have unfortunately got cleaved tips to their terminations, but the two other main crystals are in excellent condition and a couple more smaller crystals sit lower down around the side of this piece. The crystals are beautifully detailed upon their surfaces, covered in hundreds of smaller, scale-like, stepped crystal faces all the way up their length. Opaque and pale pink at their base, the crystal's colour intensifies upwards, towards their terminations, as does their transparency\/translucency and glassy lustre. This type of complex stepped scalenohedral crystal surface is virtually unheard of in pink Cobaltoan Calcite, making this very special indeed, even with the two cleaved crystals. To add to its interest, dotted around the sides of the Cobaltoan Calcite crystals are tiny spherical dark brown to bronze, silky masses of the rare species Kolwezite - copper cobalt carbonate hydroxide - often slightly sunken into the surface of the Calcite. The Kolwezite is also seen as seven or eight larger, blocky crystallized masses (to 3 to 4 mm across) showing a relict crystal form, indicating that they are pseudomorphs after probable Chalcopyrite crystals. A really fascinating miniature on so many levels.","brand":"Crystal Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50575884452015,"sku":"CC64746","price":400.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0710\/8516\/2671\/files\/CC64746.png?v=1791207259","url":"https:\/\/crystalclassics.com\/products\/cobaltoan-calcite-with-kolwezite-ps-after-chalcopyrite-2","provider":"Crystal Classics","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
