From the Tsumeb mine in Namibia, the crystals have a sucrosic texture which give a matt, non-reflective lustre.  The purity of the snow-white Calcite is interrupted on occasional crystals by blackened areas smudged with micro-crystalline Pyrolusite, manganese dioxide.
