The location of this mine is quite remote within the Northern Pennine Orefield; roughly halfway between Carlisle and Newcastle upon Tyne.  This chunky hand specimen is formed from broad, spearpoint crystals of Baryte to about 2.5 cm tall, up to 2 cm wide and 1 cm deep, all coated in a snow-white chalky Baryte crust. Where this crust is naturally chipped-away, glassier Baryte can be seen beneath.
