Thick tabular pseudohexagonal dark grey Chalcocite crystals reaching 2 cm across form an attractive pure dense aggregate, but it is the smaller, finer, glossy Chalcocite crystals that have grown epitaxially upon the surface of the larger crystals which really elevate this specimen to greatness. These smaller crystals show preferential growth along the 'rims' of the larger pseudohexagonal crystals, as linear clusters of intergrown sub-mm scale hexagonal crystals. Excellent individual isolated Chalcocite microcrystals are also seen glistening upon the edge faces of the larger Chalcocite crystals too. A fine example of a Cornish Chalcocite. Ex E.D. Taylor Collection, no. 62\/1\/281b, but his label although present, is suffering from decay.","brand":"Crystal Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46538368286895,"sku":"CC96","price":1200.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0710\/8516\/2671\/files\/CC96.png?v=1770127961"},{"product_id":"barytocalcite","title":"BARYTOCALCITE","description":"Well-formed, 'sharks-fin' off-white coloured blades of Barytocalcite (the largest to 2.1 cm in length) form fan-like aggregates to 3.9 cm across, sitting proudly on a marly limestone matrix coated in small grey rhombohedral Calcite crystals. This habit of Barytocalcite is unique to Nentsberry Haggs mine near Nenthead in Alston Moor, Cumbria and most specimens like this came from the Admiralty Concession flats which required a considerable effort to get too. There is some damage to the tips of a few of the crystals, where their darker fudge-coloured interior shows through, but this does not detract from the overall size and impression that this fine English rarity gives. This specimen is from the famous Mashamba West mine at Kolwezi, Katanga, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Although outdated, this location commonly appears on older labels as Shaba, Zaire. Charlesite was generally assumed to be the paler yellow form of Ettringite group minerals in the mines, but in reality visual identification alone is not an adequate method of distinguishing them. Other visual features used to distinguish Charlesite crystals include extensive gemmy areas, lustrous faces, and excellent terminations all of which are seen in this specimen. This fine miniature specimen displays a parallel to sub-parallel group of prismatic crystals individually measuring to 2.5 cm in length. In some specimens chemical zonation from Sturmannite to Charlesite is claimed. Long, deep green bladed crystals as individuals and fan-shaped aggregates adorn historic museum collections around the world, but very few good specimens are in private hands. This extremely rich miniature specimen from Wallaroo mine in South Australia features rich deep green intergrown prismatic crystals of Atacamite exceptionally reaching 3.7 cm in length, on a whitish matrix. The main crystal has a perfect sloping pyramidal termination, but lower down the long prism several of the faces are deformed, not through careless handling, but from where other crystals were intergrown and now detached. Under illumination, the upper part of this main crystal displays internal flashes of green where the light penetrates.
